And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. - Colossians 3:15
We live in a world that keeps on spinning. Some say it is spinning out of control, but those in Christ understand that it is spinning because Jesus is holding all things together. Because we know that Christ is in control, we can have peace in this world. We can have peace in our circumstances, peace in our relationships, and peace with the Father through our Lord Jesus.
It is interesting that after Paul exhorts the Colossians to let the peace of Christ rule in their hearts, he reminds them that they were called to one body. That peace that we have is only possible through Christ. And through Christ, we are connected to the body, his Church. If ever there should be a place where peace rules in relationships, it should be the local church. It is in the church where we find encouragement, forgiveness, love, kindness, generosity, and grace.
This has a meaning far greater than you and me. It is through the Church that Jesus has sent his people to reach the nations. When we live at peace with one another and live out the other "one-another" commands in the Scriptures, the world sees and is drawn to the Gospel. That is what empowers us to live that way.
Our membership covenant says: We will live out the one-another commands of Scripture by counting others more significant than ourselves
Redeemer, continue to be a people who does the “one-anothers” well.
