The Lord has established his throne in the heavens, and his kingdom rules over all.”
– Psalm 103:19
For many, election week is a time of hand wringing, high anxiety, and even dashed dreams of the future. For the Christian, it can be a time when God exposes our overdependence on the systems of this world. A time when the true place of our trust is revealed to us. Being a citizen certainly matters because God desires to have lordship over every area of our lives. Christians should care about politics, not remove themselves from politics. So, the call is not to step back with disinterest and set aside our responsibility as a citizen. The call is to engage while seeing all of life from a biblical, God-Centered viewpoint.
This is where the truth about our Sovereign God meets us. On a week when political fortunes ebb and flow, our God is an eternal king who sits on an eternal throne and rules over an eternal kingdom. There is no threat to His reign. His role and kingdom are secure. And He is a kind and gracious ruler who works for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.
We need not anxiously wring our hands over who is in political power. With confidence we can trust in our good King Jesus regardless of who sits on the fragile seats of power in this world.
Thank you Redeemer Church for how you faithfully follow Jesus in all of life. Your love for Christ turns my attention to Him, and for that I'm grateful.
